When Audemars Piguet launched the release of the Royal Oak watch, it broke boundaries within the watch-making industry. It arrived at a time during the early 1970’s where stainless steel was considered a rare material to incorporate into the making if a luxury wristwatch. To keep the spirit of the design alive, albeit with a few modern updates, Audemars Piguet chose to introduce the first Royal Oak Offshore watch in 1993. With a broader dial and a more powerful wrist presence, the desire for wearing a larger watch face without compromising on reliability and quality was granted by the Swiss-based manufacturer.
Royal Oak Offshore watches are the embodiment of Audemars Piguet's finest craftsmanship. With unbeatable accuracy and a distinct porthole design, these special timepieces appeal to those who fell in love with the original royal Oak watch – a design that became the flagship model of Audemars Piguet manufacture. Divers watches, perpetual calendars and minute repeaters are a few tools amongst the many to choose from within the Royal Oak Offshore watch collection. These instruments were first launched in the year of 1993, where it was instantly clear to see that inspirational roots behind the design, uncovered elements brought through from the classic Royal Oak watch.
As an official stockist of Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore watches here at Owen & Robinson, we are proud to be able to offer a large selection of designs demonstrating the breadth of Audemars Piguet's creative and innovative capabilities. Design elements like the “tapisserie” patterned dial were seen throughout models of the Royal Oak collection. The effect which is achieved via an intricate piece of machinery, gives depth to the dial and looks stunning when brought together with the gold applied indexes and signature Royal Oak central hands.
A broad octagonal shaped case is another design element carried through from Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak collection, as are the eight hexagonal shaped screws - each groove perfectly aligning with the next. A sapphire crystal glass lens is attached to the front of the octagonal bezel to offer a crisp glare-free view into the dial at any chosen time. Audemars Piguet show off their technical mastery with a mechanical movement put on direct show through an exhibition caseback made from the same sapphire glass. If there is one Royal Oak Offshore characteristic that differs from the original Royal Oak collection, it is the broad bezel which looks and feels more masculine and confident on the wrist. Of course, those watches equipped with a metal link bracelet further enhance a boldness to the design, but rubber straps and leather bands on the other hand, offer a smart, elegant finish to the dramatic octagonal bezel.
Ladies Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore watches are often adorned with diamond-set bezels to create a glamorous, edgy look - one which instantly sets the male designs apart from the female. The brilliant cut diamonds arranged upon the bezels have all been individually chosen by hand to create an opulent look when combined with smart evening attire or such like. Each stone is chosen for its fire and brilliance – the diamond colour of which must be between D a G grading with each chosen stone. Designs like the ladies Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Self Winding Chronograph watch communicate a sense of elegance and femininity with their vibrant colour choice and glistening array of diamonds. Clothed in bright pink shades seen in the dial and the rubber strap - the chronograph counters “pop” out of the face with a dark blue hue. The diamond set bezel and robust stainless steel case create a stark difference between the men’s range, whose collection showcases broad, chiselled bezels spanning up to 44mm in diameter, and ruggedly handsome good looks paraded on black ceramic bezels with huge push-pieces.
