Royal Oak

Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak watch collection is shrouded in horological beauty. Introduced at a time when stainless steel was rarely used in the manufacture of a luxury wristwatch, innovator Gerald Genta re-shaped the codes of timekeeping with his avent garde design, featuring a broad and powerful-infused octagonal shaped bezel, bolted onto a matching steel case by eight hexagonal shaped screws. The Royal Oak watch, although slightly industrial-inspired, features a “tapisserie” patterned dial and gold applied hour markers and hands, which enhance a luxurious feel throughout.

The Royal Oak watch collection by Audemars Piguet is a fascinating blend of Swiss culture combined with the company's rich heritage in traditional watch manufacture. Expert designers and artisan craftsmen at Audemars Piguet bring through some of their most favourite design features and reinterpret them in a new art form. The very first Royal Oak watch was created in 1972. It broke boundaries within the watch industry, mainly because of its distinct bezel and the unusual materials used for its manufacture when compared with other watches during this era. Audemars Piguet watches were crafted from stainless steel as opposed to the more common materials of its time, like platinum and gold. The shape of the bezel was and still is, crafted into a striking octagonal shape, with eight hexagonal shaped screws locking the bezel onto the case.

Since the 70’s the iconic Royal Oak watch design has become evermore popular. It’s chiselled good looks and masculine infused profile have become a much loved favourite for professional gentlemen, office workers, sports lovers and those ladies who prefer the “tomboy” look. Royal Oak watches have remained quite a modern-looking timepiece. The company have grown the collection to feature models dressed in stunning rose gold and steel outfits, whilst other timepieces from this line feature the two handed steel framed dial – the ladies versions of which showcases sparkling brilliant cut diamonds nestled in between the hexagonal bezel screws.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watches are also distinct for their unusual “tapisserie” decorated dial which is achieved from a process carried out by a rare automated engraving machine. The effect comes together to create a porthole-inspired design – something that Gerald Genta was keen to incorporate into the style of the watch when he was asked by the company director to create something reliable, multi-purpose but incredibly memorable. Gerald Genta equipped the Royal Oak with integrated stainless steel links and a classic foldable buckle. Perpetual calendars, chronographs and minute repeaters are all complications likely to be seen in an authentic Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watch. These timepieces have a retro-inspired feel to them, courtesy of designs of the 70’s, yet it is these elements that have kept true Audemars Piguet fans coming back for more. Royal Oak watches are classic collectables. Built using examples of fine craftsmanship and unique finishes, these stunning sports watches will always win the hearts of those with a soft spot for chunky-looking mechanical watches.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Self Winding Watch with a blue dial and a solid 18ct rose gold case, embodies the beauty of this elegant line of timepieces perfectly. The rose gold applied hour markers and central hands match the finish on the link bracelet, complete with a foldable clasp for securing a comfortable fit around the wrist. The chronograph dials adopt a sporty, technical feel to the watch, enhanced by the deep midnight tones on the display. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Self Winding watch with silver “tapisserie”dial and a stainless steel bracelet, is a simpler design for wearing to the officer, for example. Its day feature is discreet at 3 o’clock, whilst the integrated link bracelet which tapers at the buckle end, makes for the perfect finishing touches to any smart/casual attire.
