Owen & Robinson’s guide to Longines Watches

Pioneers in the fields of aeronautics and sports, Longines are the oldest registered brand name still in manufacture today. The company is renowned for creating incredibly precise quartz watches that deviate only by 5 seconds a year and their exclusive mechanical wristwatches from the Master collection. There’s an extensive range of Longines watches available all over the world, from elegant diamond-adorned ladies Dolce Vita watches with their recognisable rectangular-shaped cases to sporty and robust diver’s watches for men from the iconic Hydroconquest collection. Prices for a Longines watch from our Owen & Robinson range can vary from a classic steel Conquest model that costs around £690 to COSC-certified mechanical wristwatches in steel and rose gold which come in at just under £3000.

Why are Longines watches so well loved?

Longines’ portfolio is incredibly broad. You can literally find a watch to suit every personality, every wrist size and every task whether that be leisure-related or business-related. They’re so widely popular because of their affordability. Longines confidently straddles that gap between high-end watches that are only available to the elite of society, and something premium for the everyday collector. Moonphase chronographs, simple three-handed models, pilot-inspired chronographs and elegant ladies watches can all be found in our collections, as well as rose gold and yellow gold PVD coated bi-colour watches, all stainless steel Longines watches fitted on mesh bracelets, classic dress watches on leather straps and colourful Longines sports watches. They’ve dedicated a myriad of different watch genres to sports, the equestrian world, diving, aviation and the automobile industry.

To help break the diverse Longines universe into easier-to-manage chunks, we’ve compiled a brief introduction to the collections we stock here at Owen & Robinson, giving insight into why each line is so integral to the upkeep of the company’s world-wide reputation for supreme performance, reliability and elegance.

The Collections:

The Longines Conquest collection is renowned for its incredibly precise quartz watches and mechanical watches that look sporty but offer a practical design for wearing for business-related affairs. The quartz Longines Conquest V.H.P, which was introduced in 2017, deviating only by 5 seconds a year, is equipped with a perpetual calendar that moves the hands back to their correct positions after being influenced by magnetic fields or suffering a hard jolt. Other models from this collection include GMT models and diamond-set watches.

Dolce Vita

These Longines watches are inspired by Dolce Vita – the sweetness of life. Blued steel hands, 18ct gold and steel bi-colour rectangular cases, diamond details and guilloche textured dials are characteristics of this popular line. So, if you’re in search of that one timepiece to wear as an accompaniment to your favourite black dress – a Longines Dolce Vita watch is most definitely for you.

Longine’s slogan “Elegance is an attitude” underpins the company’s passion for creating timeless designs that look elegant even when incorporating sporty or technically-complex features. Longines Elegant watches are available in three case sizes and are equipped with self-winding mechanical movements for uncompromised reliability and accuracy. A varied choice of dial colours and finishes are available from this range, along with distinctly round steel cases and matching mesh bracelets.

The Longines Flagship watch has been reworked and re-designed in a number of ways since the collection first launched in 1957. Highlights of the line include watches with sapphire crystal glass casebacks that grant a clear view into their mechanical movement in motion, extensive vintage-inspired designs and bi-colour models that enhance luxurious undertones.

Accompanying many pioneers in their adventures through the skies, on land and under the sea, the Longines Heritage collection is based on the company’s expertise in traditional watchmaking. Models like the Longines Heritage Skin Diver watch with a striking 42mm black unidirectional rotating bezel and a black lacquered and polished dial, are testament to Longines’ ability to create something equally as unique-looking as it is reliable.

The Longines Hydroconquest collection brings high-performance to the diving world. The collection comprises black, grey and blue dials with matching coloured ceramic unidirectional bezels. An oversized Arabic 6, 9, 12 dial layout and robust stainless steel bracelet (with an innovative diving extension facility for wearing atop of heavy diving gear) are familiar features of this line.

La Grande Classique

If you focus primarily on reliability when choosing a watch, the simple designs from the La Grande Classique watch collection from Longines are sure to impress with their two-handed, purest dials. Longines watches for women and men can be found in this range, some of them featuring diamond-decorated mother of pearl dials and bi-colour bracelets.

Launched in 2005, the self winding movements powering the Longines Master watches have been meticulously designed in-house by skilled technicians who put reliability and performance at the forefront of every innovation. Moonphase chronographs, simple three handed date designs, annual calendars and diamond dot models are all available from this collection.

Prima Luna

Inspired by a silvery moon on a starry night, Prima Luna watches make for the perfect anniversary gift or birthday present for luxury-loving ladies. Composed of fine materials like 18ct rose gold, blued steel finishes and elegant diamond dot indexes – these timepieces fitted with refined metal bracelets show off the more graceful, glamorous side of Longines watchmaking.

The automatic movements integrated into the heart of a Longines Record watch feature a single-crystal silicon balance spring with unique properties. The collection features models that provide the time via deep blue, black, silver or white dials, with an hour track represented in a mix of batons and Arabic numerals. Date windows at 3 o’clock, metal bracelets and blued steel central hands are other characteristics that define this collection.

The elliptical shape of a Longines watch, combined with luxurious design elements like gold and steel bi-colour bracelets, rose gold bezels, mother of pearl dials and diamond set hour tracks makes this range of lady’s Longines watches perfect for wearing with formal or smart attire. If you want to wear a contemporary yet elegant watch to shine in the spotlight on an evening out – a Longines Symphonette watch is certainly for you.
